JUST THE BASICS
My full name is Ruth Arlene. My siblings call me Ruthie and I'm the youngest of six. Hence, "Little Ruthie."
I'm married to a wonderful man and we have a six year old son.
STATUS REPORT ON LIFE THIS FAR
My life is filled with lots of things but the past ten years have been chock full of creative things. My husband was a big band leader for 20 years (no, he's not 80...) and I booked jazz groups for events for about eight years. During all of this I returned to school to take art classes and found my love of create artwork. The writing part of creativity has always been with me, but I'm only now sharing it.
PROJECTS
Some days I have too many ideas and I have to turn off my brain. I get so overwhelmed that I can't do any of them. But.....
I'm a writer and when I think about it I've always been one. I remember writing plays when I was in the fifth grade just for the fun of it. I divide my time between romance novels and general women's fiction. Not published yet, but I will be!
I used to think I wanted to be an illustrator but I don't. I've found that I love to draw and I'm also into pastels.
I started taking singing lessons in 2005. I come from a very musical family and sang when I was little but like so many things, put it away because it wasn't "practical". It is a very scary thing to me but I'm finding that as I go, I'm learning so much and I really want to continue - even if I'm scared most of the time. Since our move from L.A. to Colorado, the lessons have been put on hold indefinitely and I'm working with my husband to see how I might want to bring music back into my life.
THROUGH MY EYES
I'm Latina/Filipina. I'm very proud of my heritage and work to pass this on to my son, who is Latino/Filipino/Greek/Some-sort-of-white European, and in my opinion, defines the face of the United States.
AT OUR HOUSE
The Arts are very important in our household. Whereas some folks will spend a couple hundred dollars to go to a football game, we will do that to go to a ballet. We raise our son with the philosophy that the Arts are a basic part of life, they aren't something you just do as a "hobby". It's part of who we are-who he is. And it's the truth. The boy is very musical and quite the dancer. Right now he wants to be a baseball player/Indiana Jones/Gene Kelly/a pilot. We'll see what happens.
